Motorola Droid stands in for glamorous photo shoot

October 19th, 2009

moto-droid-handson-rm-engWhat a difference two months make. It’s was late July when we first saw a render and spy shot of Motorola’s “other” Android devices, the Verizon-bound Droid, a.k.a. the Artist Formerly Known as Sholes. Boy Genius Report has been teasing the handset for the better part of the week, and now it’s giving us the full monty of the hardware, including its 5 megapixel autofocus camera on the back, and various Eclair-powered screens. Boy Genius himself notes that it’s the fastest Android device he’s used — thank goodness for an authentic OMAP3 — is “slightly” thicker than an iPhone 3GS, runs that Android 2.0 we’ve been hearing so much about, and includes a desktop cradle that turns the Droid into a glanceable display with weather and the like (sounds like a miniature Hub in a way, doesn’t it?). Anyhow, you want all to see the whole show? You know just where to click.

Nokia’s 5230 inches closer to release, gets spied along the way

October 18th, 2009

nokia-5230-spy-shotNokia’s 5230 isn’t apt to blow any minds with the likes of the HD2, Droid and XPERIA X3 on the horizon, but for those perfectly content with a touchscreen-based Symbian S60 5th Edition handset, this one sure looks purty. After dipping its toes in the FCC’s expansive database just last month, a crop of new in the wild shots have surfaced to show off its 3.2-inch display (640 x 360), 2 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR module and variety of colorful backs. Hit the read link for more pixels if you’re so inclined, and feel free to take the “January 2010″ release date in with a dose of NaCl.

Spice Launches new Gaming Mobile X1

October 14th, 2009

img_83551_livegaming_450x360Gaming plays a pretty big role. Don’t expect too much, unless you’re a nostalgic gamer. The handset supports .NES ROM files with no issues. The thing is that it’s also supposed to play Gameboy and GameBoy Color ROMs with .GB, .GBC extensions and also the ambitious Super Nintendo .SMC ROMs. I followed the instructions to a T, but I got nothing. The files don’t even show up in the console gaming section. Four different people from Spice couldn’t figure it out either. Java games work just fine; simply copy-paste the files into the drive and you’re good to go.
