Exclusive: Dell Mini Inspiron, Their First Mini Laptop

October 11th, 2009

dellpencil2I bumped into Michael Dell at All Things D after his interview, and he was nice enough to show me this laptop that he was carrying that he said no one’s seen before. It’s a small form factor notebook, just like the Asus Eee and the HP 2133. He wouldn’t tell me what OS it’s running, or the pricing, but that it’s a low-cost notebook meant for developing countries, and I hope here. Maybe it’s Atom-powered. Who knows? But I do see three USB ports, a card reader, VGA out, Ethernet, and that red candy shell. I couldn’t tell how big the screen was before it was tucked away into a black sleeve and ushered from the building, but it’s small. Update: Dell just released a pair of shots that add to the sense of scale, but no official name yet.

MSI X400 Laptop Launched

October 5th, 2009

The MSI X400 laptop was first announced back in May but has now finally been launched. The MSI X400 is a 14-inch laptop but with an overall weight of just 1.5kg and measuring just 9mm at its thinnest point, this is one of the lightest and slimmest machines in its class. Check out the full tech spec and price of this designer notebook after the jump…

Priced at just £569 (inc. VAT) the MSI X400 laptop has the designer looks without the designer price tag. The design of the MSI X400 is modern, simple and chic with smooth edges and a glossy finish. What’s more, it’s available in two sleek finishes, allowing you to choose either a piano black lacquer look or a pearl white casing.msi-x400-launched-02

The MSI X400 is a laptop with a good-sized 14-inch 16:9 aspect ratio screen but in a slim and lightweight chassis, making this a machine you can use at the office as well as on the move. The MSI X400 uses the latest LED backlit technology, which helps keep the weight down, as well as prolong the battery life.

With space at a premium you won’t find an optical drive built in but the MSI X400 does come with a 500GB hard drive, offering plenty of storage, 2048MB of memory, two USB ports, 1.3-Megapixel webcam and memory card reader. Extra features include HDMI, 802.11n Wi-Fi and even Bluetooth, making this a fully-rounded laptop.

The MSI X400 costs £569 (inc. VAT) and is available from October.

Lenovo S10-2 3G Netbook Launched

September 12th, 2009

Lenovo already leaked the S10-2 on its website, via a manual, but now the 3G-packing netbook is all official. Probably the most important detail is therefore now available – pricing. To which end, the S10-2 will start from £299. 10856-lenovos102span1
For that money Lenovo claims a number of refinements over the original S10. Foremost of these, obviously, is the integrated 3G modem but there are other, more subtle, changes. The chassis is slimmer and the design has been ‘jazzed up’ somewhat – which may not be to everyone’s tastes, but I think looks pretty good.

The S10-2 boasts Intel Atom CPU, three USB ports, a 4-in-1 card reader and “plenty of hard drive storage.” Those specs aren’t going to shock anyone, but that’s par for the course in Netbook Land. However, Lenovo QuickStart, the netbooks pre-Windows Linux OS, does separate the S10-2 from the crowd. 10856-lenovos102span2

You’ll be able to get your hands on an S10-2 some time in July.
